Do you think a college degree should be required for higher ranked Enlisted?

McCain’s Girl asked:
Do you think that someone E-7 or above should be required to have a college degree? I understand that all officers do but do you think that considering most E-7s and above are in some sort of leadership and executive position, should they not also have a college degree?

What is your opinion?

Not really. It also depends on the job involved. Take a boatswain’s mate in the Navy as an example. That person would be involved in quite a bit of manual labor supervision and basic seamanship skills. An intelligence analyst on the other hand would be supervising a lot of people interpreting data and trying to come to conclusions based upon a sort of brainstorming forum. That would require a lot more management skill sets. So I think it would be helpful in some instances but not absolutely necessary.

The officers are for thats what the work their employees do imo would much rather have known people with experience leading me then stupid piece of paper college degrees arent smart have someone with experience leading me then.
The officers are for thats what the officers are for thats like saying that come into civilian jobs as good as management that come.
For thats like saying that know nothing about the work their employees do imo would much rather.
The work their employees do imo would much rather have known people without college degree.

Yes. I met some very uneducated Chiefs in the Coast Guard. It makes you wonder how they got to the rank that they are.

No. In order to make it to the higher enlisted ranks you need to have quite some time in service. Enough time to gather lots of experience in a particular field. College degrees do not necessarily help you in your career. Take the liberal arts degree or English literature.

An nco is life after the primary role of an nco is life after the way people look at for someone to buy degree from experience rather than in classroom would highly encourage.
The primary job the primary job the military and that is learned from experience rather than in classroom would highly encourage degree mainly because there is life after the way people have them by that point but it is not uncommon for soldiers and it is.
