Why is a college degree or certification important whether you know what you are doing or not?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009
devotionalservice asked:

I have noticed that having a college or university degree makes such a big difference when looking for work. Some place won’t even call you in for an interview if you don’t have a degree etc.

But, still I really get the impression that some people have these degrees or certifications and are actually resting on their laurels while out of touch with what they are doing in some ways.
And what if you develop expertise in an area that is rarely given as a major in colleges yet still applicable to a variety of different career paths?
Looks like we have testimonials from both sides of the fences. Thanks to all!

I personally have never finished college training or certication. I did get 2nd initiation in Bhakti Yoga. Otherwise, I am self-taught.

I feel I have some learning disability for different reasons. That is another area of study.

There are some schools offering credits for life experience. But, their offers seem a little difficult and I personally believe much more work could be done to acknowledge life experience.

I have researched regulations, but nothing is mentioned about education requirements. I have much experience, a H.S. diploma and some college classes, but did not complete a degree.

Hi! Do you have to have a college degree to be able to work in singapore?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
singaporean wannabe asked:

I am a Filipino, 23 years old, and have been planning to work in Singapore for the longest time. I am a college graduate with a BA degree, but the thing is, the friend I am planning to go with is not. He is just afraid to go through all the effort, and to spend a big sum of money to look for a job there, and in the end, go back to the Philippines in vain. If a college degree is indeed a requirement, do you have any suggestions how he could go about this?

Your answers will be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

Terry

What’s the best way to join the military and still have a college degree?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
Greywolf asked:

My son is in high school and is interested in the military AND college. I’ve heard of getting a college degree then joining and I’ve heard of joining with the intention of them paying for college. But I don’t really know what to tell him that would be true.

Can anyone help me with some answers?
I have knowledge of the military from many family members who were in it and serving as a military wife for 5 years with my ex-husband. However, he was enlisted and the situation is different with him. He was always saying he’d wished he’d have enlisted as an officer. I was wondering HOW that happens.

I consider serving this country to be an honor. WHERE EVER that is. I don’t have to love the president to love the country. The president will come and go. The country is ours for as long as we can keep it. GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

Do you think a college degree should be required for higher ranked Enlisted?

Friday, April 10th, 2009
McCain’s Girl asked:

Do you think that someone E-7 or above should be required to have a college degree? I understand that all officers do but do you think that considering most E-7s and above are in some sort of leadership and executive position, should they not also have a college degree?

What is your opinion?

Crystal
